Automated Surveying Unit (ASU)
The world's first satellite-enabled, edge-computing bioacoustic monitoring device.
ASU 2 launching February 2025!
99% faster than surveying with ARUs
Learn of species detections on your lands within hours instead of months
3 powerful functions, 1 device
Record
Capture high-quality audio on a user-programmable schedule. Configure recording schedule, parameters and processing parameters either remotely or directly. Choose between recording with one or two microphones (dual-channel) for higher quality audio and redundancy.
Process
The U.S Forest Service's open source convolutional neural network classification algorithm, PNW Cnet (version 5), runs on audio immediately after it is captured, supporting the identification of 135 target classes including 75 species of birds, mammals and amphibians, along with environmental noises and anthrophony like gunshots, chainsaws, human voices and vehicles.
Transmit
As soon as processing is complete, the detection counts from the latest recording slot are transmitted as soon as a satellite is overhead. The data is processed and displayed in Instinct's web application where it can be viewed, downloaded and even linked to an alerts and alarms system. Instinct's app makes accessing the important insights quicker and easier than ever.
